5 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Car

New Year's Resolutions For Your Car

Happy New Year! It’s a new year, it’s a new you, and now’s the perfect time to resolve to take better care of your car. Did you know that the average American drives 25 miles and spends one hour in their car each day? That’s more time than the average person probably wants to spend in their vehicle, but we all know it’s more enjoyable when your vehicle is clean and running smoothly. This year, keep it simple by following these New Year’s Resolutions for your car.

Resolve to Stay on Top of Fluid Changes

Whether oil, transmission fluid, differential fluid or coolant, it’s important to change your vehicles fluids when your manufacturer recommends, and potentially sooner depending on the state of the fluid. As these and other fluids age, they become less effective and can eventually lead to damage or failure if not changed.

Resolve to Replace your Windshield Wiper Blades

With an average of 52 inches of rain each year, vehicle owners in Humble, TX and surrounding areas need good quality windshield wipers to help them see clearly in adverse weather conditions. Wiper blades do expire after 2-3 years, and in hotter conditions like we have in Harris County, they expire sooner. When you put brand new windshield wiper blades on your car, you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes (and kick yourself for not replacing them sooner)!

Resolve to Keep Your Car Clean

Nothing brings a smile like beautiful weather and a clean vehicle. Whether you take your car through the wash or wash it yourself, removing dirt and road/exhaust grime will help prevent rust and make your car look more aesthetically pleasing. This year, commit to keeping your car cleaner both inside and out.

Resolve to Drive Economically

A lead foot means lower MPGs and more wear and tear on your braking system. Accelerating and braking gently will lead to money savings over time. As an experiment, try driving like you have an egg between the sole of your foot and the gas pedal. You will likely see your car’s average MPG improve.

Resolve to Inspect Your Car More Regularly

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is a wise old saying, and it applies perfectly to vehicle maintenance. Worn belts and hoses, worn brake pads, worn tires, low fluid levels and fluid leaks and checking for burnt out lights are all things vehicle owners can regularly check for. At least twice a year, and before longer trips, it’s well worth it to take a few minutes to have a look around the exterior of your car and under the hood for minor problems. Car maintenance isn’t your thing? No problem. Have our experienced auto repair technicians take a look and they’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have about your vehicle and recommend the best possible maintenance or repair procedure for your situation.
